Brief Summary of Job Description
This position is responsible for mental health counseling with the UNK student population. This position provides professional individual and group counseling services and outreach to UNK students as well as consultation to university administrators, staff, and others who have concerns about the mental/emotional status of UNK students. The position will assist in all areas of UNK Counseling functions.
Job Duties
Assesses and counsels UNK students in an individual session or group settings regarding psychological/emotional problems or substance use disorders. Maintains timely, appropriate, accurate, and complete records, correspondence; safeguards confidential client information. Develops and implements therapeutic treatment plans; adept at using the DSM 5 for treatment planning. Implements crisis intervention/referral services as necessary. Works as a team player by actively participating in weekly staff meetings and departmental meetings. Maintains positive working relationships with colleagues from within cross-professional disciplines. Networks and collaborates with UNK professionals and/or Buffalo County probation/courts to provide appropriate resources for UNK students Serves on-call duty on a rotating basis. Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (PLMHP) or Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in the State of Nebraska. Master’s degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Social Work or related field in mental health. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in the State of Nebraska. Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor (LDAC) in the State of Nebraska. Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner preferred. Experience in addictions and college mental health preferred.
