Lighting Designer/Shop Supervisor, Music Theater and Dance
The University of Nebraska at Kearney Music Theater & Dance Department is seeking a Lighting Designer/Shop Supervisor. This tenure-track position holds expectations for teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Teaching load is made up nearly equally of academic classwork and production/design responsibilities. Teaching assignments include undergraduate courses in lighting design and stage management, as well as other courses appropriate to the candidate’s interests and experiences and to the departmental needs. Production responsibilities include lighting design, master electrician duties (hang and focus), and shop supervision for five main-stage productions (three non-musical productions, one musical theatre production, and one dance concert). The Lighting Designer/Shop Supervisor also is responsible for collaborative mentorship of student lighting designers and stage managers in a range of class-related and other educationally relevant projects. As shop supervisor, the candidate will work with the technical director to organize and oversee safe and efficient shop operations, including the training and supervision of student workers. They will oversee equipment maintenance and storage, use of theatre spaces with respect to lighting, and access to equipment and spaces for student and guest designers. Creative scholarship/creative activity in university and professional venues is considered research and is expected for promotion. Active participation in recruitment and retention and in university service are expected.

Required Qualifications
Earned MFA in Lighting Design; Proficiency in drafting; Evidence of successful teaching; Experience as lighting designer/master electrician; Supervisory experience in lighting work at the collegiate level; and Working knowledge of Stage Management. Three years professional experience that may include professional theatrical employment and/or teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of CAD; Working knowledge of rigging systems; Experience in other design areas. Knowledge in Sound Design and/or experience as an Audio Technician beneficial.
