The University of Nebraska at Kearney Admissions is seeking a Diversity & Community Outreach Counselor.
Brief Summary of Job Description
The Diversity and Community Outreach Counselor is responsible for recruiting prospective students from across Nebraska and around the country to the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Diversity and Community Outreach Counselor will work with and advise diverse populations of students, including first-generation, minority, non-traditional, and transfer students along with community and school officials about the educational opportunities, degree requirements, services at UNK.
Job Duties
Outreach to diverse school districts across the state. Planning, organizing, and coordination of regular high school visits for recruitment to key schools across the state and assisting with college fairs.Outreach to community colleges across the state. Planning, organizing, and coordination of regular visits to the community college campuses across the state recruiting students.Connecting with community organizations and agencies in communities across the state as well.Collaborating with development and implementation of recruitment initiatives with recruitment staff, academic and student affairs and diversity and inclusion.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; Ability to interact with individuals in a variety of settings. Excellent verbal and written communication, management, and problem-solving skills are essential. Basic computer expertise with word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, e-mail, Internet, etc, are required. Ability to work independently is essential. Must have experience with and demonstrated ability to relate to first generation, low-income, non-traditional, and minority students. Travel is required. Must have a valid driver’s license. Evening and weekend work is necessary. Bilingual (Spanish)
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, or other related field. Prior experience working in an Admissions/Student Affairs setting.
