Academic Outreach Specialist, Health Science Programs
The University of Nebraska at Kearney is accepting applications for an Academic Outreach Specialist in Health Sciences. The primary functions of the position will be to serve as the academic and career advisor for pre- health science students and manage administrative responsibilities related to health science programs. Other duties include the management of volunteer opportunities for these students and the oversight of clinical internships for students in programs at affiliated hospitals. Additional responsibilities include sponsoring student organizations, assisting with recruitment events, scholarship management and selections, promoting and maintaining relationships with health science professional schools and clinical programs, and other responsibilities as assigned. This position will include teaching a one credit hour careers course for pre-health science students.
Academic and career advising of pre-health science students, including nursing, radiography and respiratory therapy.
Management and supervision of adjunct instructors and students in hospitals and healthcare facilities enrolled in internships for clinical training in radiography and respiratory therapy.
Teaching a health careers and/or pre-nursing seminar course and other duties as assigned.
Manage recruitment and programming for students in the UNMC College of Nursing Rural Pathway Program.
Liaison for the UNMC College of Nursing, including development of programs to promote student success for pre-nursing students.
Manage academic resources for health science students, including development, design, and updates
Recruitment events including visits with prospective students, assisting with health science pipeline events and other special events, meeting with prospective students, working with UNMC on recruiting events and other activities.
Student services for health science students including volunteer opportunities, sponsor for student organizations, application assistance, career counseling, student success programming.
Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree or experience in a healthcare setting or healthcare education; strong people skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; managerial and organizational skills; ability to oversee and coordinate activities.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with students in an educational environment; academic or career advising experience.
Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, 40 hours, some nights and weekends
