Substitute K-8 Teacher
Falk School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking substitute K-8 Teachers.
Position Summary
Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. A substitute teacher is an individual who, in the absence of the classroom teacher, is responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment. It is essential that the substitute teacher follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher so that the curriculum continues to move forward.
Qualifications and Required Documents
A Bachelor's degree is required, and teaching certification is preferred. Candidates should have successful teaching experience in an elementary classroom. They must be teachers who exhibit an authentic passion and enthusiasm for Progressive education. For full consideration, please attach all the required documents to your application.
Job Duties
Day to day job duties of a substitute teacher is determined by the classroom teachers or their designees, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s) and student(s). Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day.
• Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.
• Assumes the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
• Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teacher’s lesson plans.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
• Moderate lifting/moving of various items from 15-35 pounds.
• Moving of various items – up to 30 pounds.
• Physical ability to use office equipment.
• Work is performed in all areas of the school, grounds, and/or any area in which a school activity or function is taking place, including field trips, work-based learning, etc.
• Exposed to varying degrees of temperature relative to the conditions occurring in nature outside.
Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here and are part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.
Compensation is based on an hourly rate.
Offer of employment is contingent on the candidate satisfactorily obtaining and passing the following prior to commencement of appointment: Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check. In addition, as required by Act 168 of 2014, the candidate must satisfy the requirements stated on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form.
