CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
Under the umbrella of the University of Delaware Community Engagement Initiative, the College of Health Sciences Partnership for Healthy Communities (PHC) is a community-informed collaborative that seeks to measurably improve the health and well-being of Delawareans, particularly those living in communities characterized by social and economic disadvantage. This goal is accomplished through the core PHC functions of research translation and discovery, education and experiential learning, and community engagement and partnership. Through the PHC, we are building a network of strategic partnerships with nonprofits, state agencies, and other University of Delaware units to initiatives designed to influence the social determinants of health (SDOH) and vital conditions in ways that promote population health and address health inequities.
Under the general direction of the PHC leads, the Program Manager is primarily responsible for carrying out efforts to support PHC’s three core pillars: research translation and discovery; engagement and partnerships; and education and experiential learning. This role will be responsible for balancing administrative functions, communications, and developing external collaborations. The position serves as a resource to the PHC leads and as a primary point of contact to the PHC and works closely with UD’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program to fulfil PHC’s critical role in community engagement requirements for MPH accreditation. This position is also responsible for project management of specific PHC strategic community engaged scholarships for health projects, some of which serve as essential to the functioning of Delaware’s public health system.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research Translation and Discovery
- Serve as project manager on specific PHC strategic community-engaged scholarship for health partnerships, including management across a complex array of stakeholders, internal and external partners, and support strategic priorities across multiples projects and agencies.
- Oversee production of documents including newsletters, annual and special progress reports, PHC main website and project-specific websites, and other materials for distribution or publication after generating data through the collection, tracking and analysis of a wide array of PHC engagement efforts.
- Develop, maintain, and update project-related documents, materials, databases, and deliverables.
- Identify grant opportunities, coordinate grant seeking efforts, and develop grant proposals as appropriate.
Engagement and Partnerships
- Build internal and external networks that will participate in and support partnership work.
- Facilitate communication between partners, including identification of community needs.
- Develop and implement PHC communications for various campus and community audiences, ensuring that the overall marketing efforts connect to PHC and CEI’s broader strategic plan and reflect guiding principles of community engagement.
- Provide support and coordination with other UD partnerships (e.g., Partnership for Public Education) and the larger University Community Engagement Initiative in which PHC is housed, including scheduling, and attending meetings, taking minutes, providing updates and facilitating communication among stakeholders.
Education and Experiential Learning
- Collaborate with UD MPH program on identifying experiential placement opportunities for students with PHC partners and serve as liaison with placement partners to ensure student success.
- Supervise graduate students and undergraduate students who have been assigned to support PHC initiatives.
Operations
- Act as primary liaison to college and departmental Business Administrators and the CHS Grants team for matters related to financial record keeping and reporting, grant submissions, and human resources.
- Interact with internal and external individuals and groups on significant matters often requiring coordination between several offices and/or institutions.
- Provide clear and effective written and verbal communication to a wide range of position levels from various Colleges and external organizations.
- Coordinate the development, evaluation, and dissemination of program policies, procedures, and materials.
- Develop operational processes and procedures as well as manuals, as needed.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and four years of project management, leadership, supervisory or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience gained within an academic environment and/or community health organization.
- Familiarity with community health issues. Experience or knowledge of community health research and/or community-engaged research preferred.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, develop financial plans, and manage resources.
- Experience or knowledge of community health research and/or community-engaged research preferred.
- Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills (building relationships, trust, conflict resolution, the ability to develop and strengthen partnerships). Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals both within and outside the university.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing and adjusting priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks concurrently and adjust priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with office software willingness to try new technologies that support communication, including social media and data visualization/presentation.
