CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
Under the limited direction of the Associate Vice Provost, the Director practices creative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leadership to ensure the growth of high-quality lifelong learning programs at the OLLIs at UD. The Director oversees both the academic and administrative operations of OLLI Wilmington, OLLI in Kent and Sussex and UD OLLI Online. This includes leading strategic planning, staff supervision and development, program administration, budgeting and fundraising, marketing, membership services, facilities management and information technology (IT) needs. In this work, the Director deploys marketing, financial management, fundraising and facilities management resources from PCS and central university offices. The Director works closely with the OLLI Wilmington Council and the OLLI in Kent and Sussex Council to ensure the smooth functioning of OLLIs’ cooperative governance model. The Director also ensures that UD OLLI Online serves members in Delaware and in out-of-state locations. The Director appreciates the special needs of OLLI’s adult members (over 50) and has the interpersonal skills necessary to nurture the unique OLLI learning environment and social network.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with volunteer-driven OLLI Councils and committees, including curriculum, online, activities, travel, among others, to offer programming that attracts and retains OLLI members and is consistent with OLLI’s mission and the goals of the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.
- Leads and develops a team of full and part-time staff responsible for the daily operations of OLLI Wilmington, OLLI in Kent and Sussex Counties and UD OLLI Online.
- Ensures efficient operation of the common administrative structure for the OLLIs at UD (joint marketing, catalog production, registration, and payment processing) so that it provides excellent service to members.
- Manages a self-supporting, annual budget for OLLI Wilmington of just over $1 million (with considerable endowment funds) and for OLLI in Kent and Sussex of approximately $300k, approving expenditures, and reviewing monthly financial reports. Collaborates with the College Business Officer to assure financial integrity through proper recording and procedures in accordance with University guidelines.
- Using independent judgment and in consultation with other functional units within PCS or University units, make decisions in managing resolution of employee and operational issues, ensuring that they are handled consistently with University policies.
- Works in close cooperation with UD Development and Alumni Relations to raise funds for OLLI via donations, planned gifts and endowment creation. Organizes fundraising campaigns and annual giving/donor events through the year.
- Coordinates with PCS’ marketing and communications office on OLLI marketing campaigns and digital and printed collateral, including the fall, spring and summer catalogs, newsletters, brochures, and other means of communication.
- Develops organizational partnerships through which in-person and online OLLI programming can be offered.
- Working with staff, ensures that OLLI has the educational and classroom technology to support in-person and online courses and programming, member registration and payment processing.
- Manages the operation and repairs/improvements to Arsht Hall in Wilmington, working with PCS and UD Facilities. Oversees the work of the Manager for OLLI in Kent and Sussex Counties to manage the operation of OLLI rental facilities in Lewes, Dover and Ocean View.
- In cooperation with the Associate Vice Provost, prepares accountability goals, assessment plans, and end-of-year OLLI reports for the Bernard Osher Foundation and the Graduate College/PCS.
- Represents the OLLIs at UD at OLLI National Network events and in UD committees as requested by the Associate Vice Provost.
- Collaborates with the Associate Vice Provost in developing policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives for PCS, and operationalizes strategic plans for divisional progress. Serves as a member of the PCS senior leadership team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in education, educational gerontology, higher education administration or related field and minimum of six years of job-related experience.
- Experience working with older adult learners.
- Demonstrated financial and budget management skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and program management skills, and ability to coordinate efforts of large constituent groups.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills, along with the ability to engage, develop and motivate staff.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and discretion.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to build consensus and work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
- Intermediate computing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), database, registration and customer relationship management software.
- Demonstrated understanding of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Preferred:
- A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in education, higher education administration, educational gerontology or related field.
- Experience working with advisory councils; management of volunteers in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in networking, developing, and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with university and/or non-profit community organizations.
