Job Description:
The University at Albany's Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) is seeking a Web Specialist to be part of the marketing team. This position will report to the Associate Director of Web Services. The Web Specialist will be responsible for creating impactful online communications and consistent web design solutions that uphold the University brand, meet strategic marketing goals, and effectively facilitate university operations with a focus on the internal community, student retention, and enrollment marketing. The Web Specialist will work closely with individual university departments, units, and divisions to understand their online communications needs, advise on best practices and division procedures, assist in the production of assets to meet goals, and monitor outcomes. The incumbent will provide guidance and training to staff within their assigned service area. This position will serve as a liaison between the assigned service areas and the University Office of Communications and Marketing, providing best practices and ensuring the website is meeting strategic marketing, enrollment, and reputational goals. This person will be an integral member of the team, helping to form strong relationships between their service area and OCM.
Responsibilities:
- Work with assigned service area to provide guidance on and lead in the execution of clear, effective, on-brand web-based communications including site architecture, writing, design, monitoring, and updating
- Aid in identifying and correcting accessibility issues in content
- Provide ongoing training and troubleshooting to CMS (web content management system) and other online application users
- Assist in identifying and correcting quality issues in content including broken links, spelling, grammatical errors, off-brand content, and poorly performing sites
- Lead meetings/engagement with stakeholders and site owners to discuss and determine website and marketing plans and select online tools and content to meet set goals
- Regularly monitor website performance and analytics and work with leadership to continually optimize content and performance
- Create and uphold a rigorous schedule of site review, refresh, renewal, and removal of site content, technology, and pages
- Work with the creative team, web designers, and developers to provide creative, effective, and on-brand solutions in the online space
- Communicate the launch or updating of sites, monitor site performance, optimize performance, and provide regular performance reports and presentations
- Collaborate with the internal team and clients to determine best practices to track website effectiveness and overall success
- Analyze any marketing data (conversion rates, traffic, etc.) on sites under oversight to help shape future marketing strategy
Requirements:
MINIMUM
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- 1-3 years experience in web communications, design, development, content creation or related areas
- Experience using an enterprise web CMS
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- A clear understanding of the online space
- Self-starter; ability to work independently and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, including both short and long-term efforts
- Applicants must address in their application the ability to work with culturally diverse populations
PREFERRED
- Experience in higher education
- Knowledge of Drupal CMS
- Experience in Google Analytics

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3; $54,000-57,000
