Extruder Tec
Overview:
This position reports to the building leadman and building leader assigned to their building. They run designated material from customer specifications and seeks guidance from their building leadman or building leader if they run into runnability issues.
Authorization:
This position reports problems with running jobs, based on customer specs, to their building leadership. An operator is not allowed to change customer specs (formulas) without the consent of their building leadman or building leader.
Overview: An extrusion operator at SCC runs thermoplastic materials through an extruder, a machine that processes or melts plastic. Extruder operators set the dials and controls on the machines based on information acquired from the production ticket. They ensure that the created product meets the customer requirements in relation to size, shape, color, etc. Refer to work instruction for additional information.
Responsibility: To do whatever necessary, within your ability, to help Standridge Color Corporation flourish and become a better organization. Job duties are as follows:
- Performs any task required to make Standridge Color’s customers happy.
- Performs all tasks as outlined in the job set-up and/or work instructions.
- Keeps machine clean and running efficiently.
- Performs routine checks on equipment to ensure it is operating efficiently.
- Ensure that all excess material is re-ground and put pack into jobs.
- Ensures that all products run meets the customer’s specifications.
- Performs line checks during the extrusion process to ensure that job is running per customer specifications.
- Completes appropriate paperwork for forklifts and maintains forklifts assigned to building or department.
- Reprocesses material if necessary.
- Assists with keeping work area clean.
- Follows safe work practices and procedures.
- Wears PPE associated with the extruder operator job; steel-toed boots, safety goggles, earplugs and other PPE as required by the building leader.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The extruder operator must have the ability to do the following:
- Able to perform start-up and shutdown of extruder.
- Able to run underwater extruders.
- Able to run strand-cut extruders.
- Able to verify contamination is not present.
- Able to verify pellet count is within specifications.
- Must be able to perform quality checks on product being run.
- Able to control heat zones to extruder set-up.
- Able to operate computer system.
- Able to operate volumetric feeder system.
- Able to understand associated paperwork involved with the extrusion operation.
- Able to make proper adjustments to extruder when necessary.
- Able to operate forklift, to mount and dismount forklift safely.
- Must be able to rapidly build Gaylord boxes for finished product.
- Able to operate regrind equipment.
- Must contribute to overall housekeeping of building, including sweeping, cleaning and keeping work area free of clutter.
- Able to have good communication skills with co-workers.
- Able to be flexible in working schedule and job duties.
Physical Characteristics required for the job:
- Moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).
- Must be able to push and pull tubs and rack on wheels, that may contain up to a 500 lb load.
- Moderate eye and ear exposure.
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect product.
- Exposure to high elevations (i.e., climbing ladders and working on top of the mezzanine).
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Reporting Relationship:
- Reports indirectly to the Building Leader.
- Directly reports to the Building Leadman.
