As a member of this statewide team, the individual will be responsible for actively working with the team to identify important educational needs and learning objectives and developing and implementing programs that address them.

We seek candidates who have a basic knowledge of and commitment to sustainable forestry, wildlife management, silviculture, insect and disease management, invasive plant control, and enjoy the challenge of working as part of a team on a wide variety of educational efforts.

The Extension Educator is expected to:
  • develop original content to engage audiences through innovative educational methods such as online courses, videos, webinars, and electronic publications in addition to traditional publications and in-person presentations;
  • support collaborative team programming activities, curricula, and events;
  • establish and facilitate partnerships with external stakeholder groups at the county, area, and state scales; and
  • pursue and leverage external funding support (e.g. grants, contracts, cost recovery) in support of the team's programs

The individual in this position will undertake primarily these activities:
  • provide diverse forest resources and wildlife programming to private (non-industrial) forest landowners, natural resource professionals (foresters, wildlife biologists, timber harvesters, etc.), youth, and educators;
  • assist forest landowners and natural resource professionals in gaining knowledge, making decisions, establishing beneficial partnerships, and acquiring skills to manage forest resources sustainably so that these working forests provide enduring benefits; and
  • encourage private landowners to obtain professional forestry assistance in managing their forestlands for long-term health and productivity.

The location of office will be flexible and based on interest of qualified applicants in the Southwest or Northeast regions.

Education and Experience:

Typical requirements include a Master's Degree or higher and 2 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with degree(s) in forest resources management, forest ecosystem management, forest economics, silviculture, or other related disciplines, and to those that have related work experience in natural resources education or industry.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
