The Assistant Director develops social media best practices and provides expert guidance and leadership to digital communicators across all ODU divisions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video editing software.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong professional writing and editing skills.
- Ability to develop creative, compelling, and persuasive visual communications furthering strategic marketing objectives.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into digestible social media content.
- Ability to work independently and proactively with other team members, identifying resources and approaches to achieving job goals and outcomes.
- Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of internal partners, including leadership, faculty, scientists, researchers, and students.
- Master's Degree in English, communications, marketing, or other related field of study. Or, Bachelor's Degree in English, communications, marketing, or other related fields of study with work experience to equate to a master's degree.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Considerable experience with higher education and social media marketing.
- Considerable experience managing social media in a professional setting.
- Considerable experience at a professional level developing and implementing social media strategy and managing branded social media accounts for an organization.
- Considerable experience applying analytical skills to generate insights to get results.
- Some experience in a social media role for a large, complex organization.
- Some working experience with a variety of social media dashboards, listening and monitoring tools.
- Some experience delivering emergency or crisis communication.
Given the nature of the positions in University Communications, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a University closing.
- There may be occasions where the employee will be asked to work during University closings as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).
