Job Duties

The Applied Liberal Studies (ALS) Program Director's primary objective is to maximize existing campus resources and facilitate collaborations to ensure the success of the ALS program. The Applied Liberal Studies (ALS) Program Director will work in collaboration with the OSSR to significantly increase graduation rates at Morgan, especially for students classified as undeclared majors who have accumulated almost enough credits for graduation. The ALS Program Director will grow the program over time and provide annual reports and periodic updates to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMASS). This position requires the ability to multi-task, to work well with others, and to function in varied campus environments.

The Applied Liberal Studies (ALS) Program Director will manage all aspects of the ALS Program, including the recruitment of students, the review of courses already completed, the review of college-level credit earned through prior learning assessments, and the design of an approved degree plan. Additionally, the Applied Liberal Studies Program Director will:
  • mentor and advise students enrolled in the program
  • establish goals and key performance indicators to enhance student achievement, engagement, retention, and graduation
  • collaborate with faculty regarding student participation and progress
  • develop a marketing strategy for the ALS program
  • identify, track, and monitor students in the ALS program
  • help ALS students establish a firm foundation in liberal or general education suitable for the workplace
  • provide ALS students with opportunities for substantial specialization in their unique areas of interest
  • recommend and design flexible programs of study suited to ALS students' employment, career plans, and personal goals
  • coordinate the assessment of ALS students' hands-on training in their area(s) of specialization, including all aspects of the externship/internship component of the program
  • work with the Registrar to assist ALS students with the graduation clearance process
  • collaborate with the Office of Student Success and Retention (OSSR) to support reclaimed students, stopped-out students, and near completers
  • provide leadership, planning, and oversight of all components of the Applied Liberal Studies (ALS) Program
  • serve as a core faculty member in the program with certain teaching responsibilities in the area of specialization
  • serve as program representative to local, regional, and national professional and/or accrediting bodies as appropriate for the discipline and/or determined by the Dean
  • represent the program to internal and external academic communities, alumni, business and industry, government, foundations, and the general community
Requested Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an academic environment including at least three years in a leadership role
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership in student success
  • Proficiency in data analysis and strategic initiative development
  • Knowledge of best practices in student success
  • Strong communication and consensus-building skills
  • Experience with diverse populations and inclusive excellence
  • Effective budget management abilities
