Summary

Site Clinical Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis dependent upon student need. Site Clinical Instructors will typically teach between 3-9 credits per semester, dependent upon program need. Site Clinical Instructors teach a specific clinical course within the curriculum of the programs of the School of Nursing. Primary responsibilities include overall course delivery, clinical supervision of an assigned group of students, formative and summative assessment of student progress (including grading and assessment, mentoring and student support, regular office hours).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Time spent in the activity areas below are negotiated with individual faculty, but are generally considered to be:
  • Teaching: 100%. Teaches a specific clinical course or courses in one or more of the programs in the School of Nursing, as appropriate to area of expertise and program needs. Teaching responsibilities include:
    • Selection of Student clinical assignments.
    • Liaison with agency staff.
    • Liaison with other course faculty.
    • Direct clinical supervision for an assigned group of students.
    • Overall responsibility for course management.
    • Delivery of content.
    • Formative and summative assessment of student performance including grading.
    • Student mentoring and support, including designated office hours.
    • Mandatory attendance at course team meetings including (at a minimum) orientation prior to the semester; midway through the semester and an end of semester debriefing.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Qualifications

A candidate must have a graduate degree in nursing, and current clinical experience within a defined specialization. Eligibility for nursing licensure in Massachusetts is required.

In addition, all Site Clinical Instructors are expected to possess:

  • Recognized clinical expertise as a nurse and in a particular content arena.
