The HVAC Technician II performs skilled maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems within the College's Main campus and regional locations. This position installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines; following blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. The HVAC Technician II performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems; maintains and secures a spare parts inventory; and recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies.
Specific Responsibilities
- Performs skilled maintenance of the College's HVAC systems; including the cleaning, greasing, and replacement of belts, fans and filters.
- Follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units.
- Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems.
- Maintains and repairs HVAC equipment and components based on manufacturer recommendations and under variable conditions.
- Uses equipment management controls to start, stop, seek status or change conditions on HVAC systems via computer.
- Maintains compressors, condensers, etc. on split system, a self-contained conditioning system, and large fans.
- Repairs and maintains the institutional heating plant.
- Repairs and maintains cooling towers, chillers, condenser/chiller water pumps and refrigeration equipment.
- Repairs and maintains VAV systems, diffusers, thermostats and heating coils.
- Provides assistance with institutional renovation HVAC projects
- Repairs and maintains pneumatic and electrical control equipment and instruments.
- Monitors and maintains high pressure boilers; performs chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water.
- Records and reports time, materials, faults, deficiencies, or other unusual occurrences on work orders.
- Maintains and secures a spare parts inventory.
- Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies.
- Maintains knowledge of all HVAC equipment and locations.
- Travels to the College's regional centers to support routine maintenance repair requests, and various other projects, as needed.
- Delivers parts and materials to various sites around campus and at the College's regional locations.
- Complies with all applicable standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures or the maintenance of a clean work area.
- Delivers quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
- Communicates emergency situations promptly to the Facilities leadership team and update the status of work orders in the department's work order system.
- Maintains sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years vocational or trade school training required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience maintaining HVAC systems required.
- Valid City of Philadelphia Engineer's Grade "A" Operators License required.
- Valid CFC certification required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, required.
